Every other Sunday, The Simple Dollar reviews a personal productivity, personal development, or business/entrepreneurship book of interest.

a perfect messOver the last several years, I’ve worked very hard to become more and more organized with my stuff. I used to have a very difficult time finding things that I needed when I needed them and I also had some degree of difficulty effectively managing my time. Thankfully, over the last few years, I’ve really managed to conquer both of these. I feel incredibly productive on an average day now … Continue Reading

Uttarakhand tour: I was unable to write something on my blog, I was unable to read newspaper regularly, I was …. yet I was very happy as I was on a tour of “Devbhoomi Uttarakhand” with my parents last week. Its name was uttarakhand initially, then changed to uttaranchal and again uttarakhand as it was the northern part of Uttar Pradesh. But I think they should have thought of some other local good name. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya pradesh are very boring names. There are two parts in uttarakhand - Garhwal and Kumayun. Somebody suggested that we should merge Uttarakhand … Continue Reading

I don’t feel sorry for Yahoo

Email This Post to a Friend Email This Post to a Friend

I keep trying to ignore this year’s biggest technology industry news story. I’d rather try out the latest Twitter client (TweetDeck is the one on my screen right now and it’s pretty cool). But through that client came a torrent of news this morning and, indeed, the story is all over the top of TechMeme. Steve Ballmer still wants to buy Yahoo, but only if Yahoo’s current board gets fired first.

I don’t care and I don’t feel sorry for Yahoo. I am thinking back to the first days of this story, back in January. I still remember Maryam, … Continue Reading

This entry is part 3 of 3 in the series Be the change

This is a long emotional article, so read carefully and only when you have time, otherwise bookmark it and read when you are in position to think.

Are left parties traitors? Is congress is working for what is best for US, not what is best for India? Whether RSS is a terrorist organization? Is BJP trying to promote the communal ideals? Is protest in Gorkhaland, Mumbai, Rajasthan unpatriotic? I come across these questions and comments at online blogs, in speeches of leaders and even in books. Not … Continue Reading

A Soldier’s General : Sam Manekshaw and implications of his legacy

First of all, a tribute to the best Indian soldier ever Field Marshal Manekshaw. He died today. He was one of the founding father of Indian modern state. As Nehru was prime inspiration and lighthouse in politics in initial years of India, Field Marshal was for army personnel. He was famous for his inspiring words and guiding a policy of involvement of army in political matters. It was fortunate for India to have him in those scary times of late 60s and 70s, when everywhere else in the world democracies were falling apart and military was taking over.
This brings … Continue Reading

Will Manmohan Singh stay or go?

Email This Post to a Friend Email This Post to a Friend

Manmohan singh, our dummy prime minister is in the dilemma of lifetime. He has asserted many times that he will resign if nuclear deal is paralyzed by anyone. Now we have very interesting situation. Points to be considered:

NDA, BSP have distanced themselves from deal and will vote against government.
Left front is in no mood to go along with deal. They have said that if deal take place, they will withdraw support by all means.
Congress (read Manmohan uncle) is very strongly with deal. Specially Manmohan Singh has made it a prestige issue. He will certainly resign if deal is snapped.
Congress (other … Continue Reading

Top 6 reasons why India can not produce an Obama

Email This Post to a Friend Email This Post to a Friend

There is a high pitched debate going on among Indian bloggers whether India can produce an Obama or not. (here, here) By “producing an Obama” we mean the very rapid rise of a particular leader at the national level like Mr. Barak Obama in USA. We know that India always has tradition of old leaders, leaders in their 90s, 80s. We have Mr. Advani, age above 80, Mr. Karunanidhi, Buddhadev Bhattacharya, Devegauda as patriarchs of Indian politics. But we do not have any leader in his 40s or 50s, who has a national appeal (I do … Continue Reading
